چکیده

one, a significant portion of CBGbound testosterone. We kindly invite Drs. Pardridge and Demers toprovide evidence to the contrary. Our observations merely indicate that there may be a moderate increase of testosterone secretion in consequence of corticotropin stimulation of the adrenals, which is reflected by total, free, and salivary testosterone concentrations, and also (probably) by the albumin-bound testosterone concentration (the latter being essentially proportional tofree testosterone). Which of the moieties of plasma testosterone corresponds more closely to bioavailable” testosterone cannot be decided on the basis of quantitative comparison with salivary testosterone concentrations for reasons that also have been given by Pardridge.

Automated determination of serum hexosaminidase A by pH inactivation for detection of Tay-Sachs disease heterozygotes.

We have automated a manual test for detection of heterozygotes of Tay-Sachs disease by assay of hexosaminidase A in serum, based on pH inactivation [C/in. Chim. Acta 43, 417 (1973)]. The same manifold is used both for the total hexosaminidase and pH-inactivation (hexosaminidase B) procedures. Automation expedites mass screening of the Ashkenazi Jewish population for carriers of the TaySachs gen...

Tay-Sachs Disease in Two Iranian Identical Male Twins; A Case Report

Background Tay-Sachs disease is an autosomal-recessive lysosomal storage metabolic disorder. The typical symptoms of the disease include ataxia, muscle weakness, and mental disorders. The severity of the clinical symptom relies on the enzymatic activity of residual Hexosaminidase-A. Case Presentation</...

Three Novel Mutations in Iranian Patients with Tay-Sachs Disease

Background: Tay-Sachs disease (TSD), or GM2 gangliosidosis, is a lethal autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorder, which is caused by a deficiency of beta-hexosaminidase A (HEXA), resulting in lysosomal accumulation of GM2 ganglioside. The aim of this study was to identify the TSD-causing mutations in‌ an Iranian population. Methods: In this study, we examined 31 patients for TSD-causing m...

Screening for carriers of Tay-Sachs disease in the ultraorthodox Ashkenazi Jewish community in Israel.

A screening program for the detection of Tay-Sachs disease (TSD) carriers in the ultra Orthodox community of Ashkenazi Jews has operated in Israel since 1986. The purpose of this program is the prevention of marriages of 2 heterozygotes. The screened individuals are mostly couples in the engagement process or students in religious high schools. Two mandatory requirements guide this program. Fir...

Comparison of enzyme and DNA analysis in a Tay-Sachs disease carrier screening program.

Tay-Sachs disease (GM2 gangliosidosis, type 1; TSD) is an autosomal recessive GM2 gangliosidosis resulting from the deficient activity of the lysosomal hydrolase beta-hexosaminidase A (Hex A). With a carrier frequency estimated at 1 in 25, it is a common lysosomal disorder in the Ashkenazi Jewish population. Tay-Sachs disease has provided the prototype for the prevention of severe recessive gen...
